HAM gives a nod to both a tasty ingredient and the derivation of the name Hampstead, from the Olde English ‘hamstede’ or ‘homestead’. Combining the warmth of a neighbourhood venue with the slickness of an uptown establishment, it is indeed a place in which you will feel very much at home.
The restaurant champions produce from small British farms and artisan suppliers and is a great addition to West Hampstead’s foodie scene. From your extremely comfortable leather banquette, watch Aussie ex-Ledbury and Terroirs chef Matt Osborne beaver away in an elevated open kitchen overlooking the buzzy dining room.
Warm sourdough from East Finchley’s Margot Bakery (also a Restaurant Club member) is perfect to nibble on while studying the interesting wine list. The menu changes daily – previous incarnations have included crab, avocado & nuts, raw beef with wasabi mayo, ginger & shallots, chicken with Jersey Royals, wild garlic & chard. The brunch menu features Bloody Mary & avocado on toast and the most delicious Bircher muesli with poached rhubarb. Portions are generous enough to satisfy but small enough to leave room for pudding or Neal’s Yard Dairy cheeses.
‘Loving Ham in West Hampstead, it’s become my new favourite spot, fully booked so had to sit at the bar for supper!’ Meezan
‘The new Ham cafe in West Hampstead for brunch was amazing, probably the best poached eggs on toast that I have ever had, great coffee too!’ Ben
