Creative Japanaese/Italian fusion tasting menu in stylish surroundings in Dalston.
Named after a jazz song about a waitress in a pizzeria, the concept is Japanese/Italian fusion. Menu highlights include katsuobushi taleggio doughnuts, red gurnard with truffled soy and hazelnut, a squid ink tapioca cracker loaded with otoro (tuna belly) and lardo, chicken karaage, caramelle pasta (so called because it looks like a wrapped toffee) with black truffle and a palate cleanser of a vegan herb sorbet. The wine pairing throws up some really interesting tasters, notably a refreshingly zingy Sicilian Zibibbo and a surprisingly light Barolo by a female producer from Piemonte.
The décor, by the owner’s interior designer mother Anna, is cool, contemporary and pared back but very stylish, with stunning marble tables and huge windows on to the street. Most of the herbs are produced in her garden in Fulham – even the Japanese ones.
Thirteen-course tasting menu is £59. The standard wine pairing is £45 and the rare and old pairing is £55.
There is also an informal Yakitori & Piadine terrace at the front.
